Because I have hypothyroidism, I have to have regular blood tests done to keep my thyroid in check. On top of that, they check my cholesterol, a1C, and other factors at the same time. So here is a comparison of my numbers from between April and today.
Glucose
April: 142
Today: 107
A1C
April: 6.4
Today: 5.8
Total Cholesterol:
April: 227
Today: 230
HDL
April: 28
Today: 29
LDL
April: 136
Today: 163
Triglycerides
April: 315
Today: 189
TSH/Thyroid
April: 25.00
Today: below 1.0 -- my current med was lowered
My numbers are looking better, for the most part. But the cholesterol/HDL/LDL numbers are a little worrying to me, mostly because my doctor said that she wanted to put me on a statin. I told her I wouldn't take it if she did, because I've heard about too many bad side effects from statins. She's going to give me information on a non-statin medication and see if I want to do that, as well. I already know that I don't want to do it, but I think I might have another option that I'm going to run by her.
For my thyroid, I take synthroid. I mentioned that in "Fat Head" movie page on Facebook, and some on the board who also have thyroid issues suggested that I change the medication to a t3 med, because the synthroid might be keeping my cholesterol artificially high. So, I made an appointment with my doctor for Friday, and I am going to talk with her about changing my thyroid medication to see if that works in lowering my cholesterol over adding another medication.
If you look at the cholesterol/HDL/LDL numbers for April, those were from before I went back on the medication. The "today" numbers are after I started meds again. So I think there might be something to it. I want to at least try switching meds over adding another one first.
Honestly? I don't think 230 is terrible at all. It's better than it was when was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism. After my appointment with the doctor on Friday, I'll have a clearer picture of what I'm going to do.
